Hi there, thanks for stopping by my page. As you can see, my name is Eyesmin. Pronounced exactly as it is written. Eyes - Min. Somewhere in the process of emigrating from my birthplace of Bangladesh to New York City my name took on a new identity from Yasmin; a common side effect of being an immigrant. Back home it is still Yasmin as it is written in Bangla. My original concern for my name has now become a total appreciation since the name is now unique. You can call me Eyesmin or Yasmin. I like both.
I come from a close knit family I consisting of a South Asian heritage which follows Muslim beliefs. There is an extreme overlap of religion and culture which instills patriarchy and my family is no exception to it. Certain words, such as liberty, freedom, option and choice do not coincide with being a daughter. Eventually, I found my place in the modeling world as well as my true love for competitive running.
I have also crossed over the cultural divide I originated from and have become an excellent swimmer. Swimming has allowed me to become a professional lifeguard, swim instructor and to teach swimming to individuals with disabilities. It even allowed me to compete in open water races such as Aquathlons where I faired very well.
When I am not running, swimming or posing, I am toiling with a camera playing a photographer. It has given me a new creative perspective which is enhanced by my modeling experience.
My hope is to be able to inspire countless girls in my culture who have their hopes suppressed. This could possibly inspire them to find strength in fitness, wellness and self expression, most importantly with a feeling of safety, openness and acceptance. I feel religion and culture should never be an obstacle but instead, an enhancement to life. A difficult task to conquer but certainly achievable in time.
